Once you hold a GSTIN, returns fall due every month or quarter — including months with no sales. Most of the cost of getting GST wrong comes from two things: late filing, and input tax credit claimed that your suppliers never reported. We reconcile your purchases against GSTR-2B before every filing, so both are dealt with before they become notices.
Who this suits
- Regular GST taxpayers filing monthly
- Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore on the quarterly QRMP scheme
- Composition dealers filing CMP-08 and the annual GSTR-4
- E-commerce sellers and businesses with inter-state supplies
- Anyone behind on returns who needs to catch up
The process, step by step
-
Collect sales and purchase data
Sales invoices, credit and debit notes, and purchase invoices for the period, shared over WhatsApp, email or directly from your accounting software.
By the 5th -
Reconcile input credit with GSTR-2B
Every purchase claim is matched against what your suppliers have reported. Mismatches are flagged to you so you can chase the supplier before the credit is lost.
Before filing -
File GSTR-1
Outward supplies are reported — by the 11th for monthly filers, or through the IFF and quarterly GSTR-1 under QRMP.
By the 11th -
Compute tax and pay
Tax payable is worked out after eligible credit, and we send you the challan amount. Under QRMP, the monthly PMT-06 payment is due by the 25th.
Before 3B -
File GSTR-3B
The summary return is filed and tax is set off. Monthly filers by the 20th; quarterly filers in Kerala and Karnataka by the 22nd of the month after the quarter.
By the 20th -
Annual return
GSTR-9 for the year, and the GSTR-9C reconciliation statement where turnover exceeds ₹5 crore. Due by 31 December after the year ends.
Annually
Late filing
A late return attracts a late fee for each day of delay, and unpaid tax carries interest. A business that misses returns for long enough can have its registration cancelled. If you are already behind, filing the oldest return first is usually required — we work through the backlog in order and tell you the total cost upfront.
Questions we get asked
Do I need to file if I had no sales this month?
Yes. A nil return is still due for every period while your registration is active. Missing it attracts a late fee in the same way as a regular return.
Should I choose monthly filing or QRMP?
If your aggregate turnover is up to ₹5 crore you can opt for quarterly returns with monthly tax payment. It reduces filings, but if your customers need their input credit reflected every month, monthly filing of GSTR-1 or IFF may suit them better. We look at who you sell to before advising.
My input credit is lower than I expected. Why?
Credit is generally available only for invoices your supplier has reported and that appear in your GSTR-2B. Our reconciliation shows exactly which invoices are missing and which suppliers to follow up with.
Is the annual return compulsory for small businesses?
GSTR-9 is optional where aggregate turnover for the year is up to ₹2 crore. Above ₹5 crore, the GSTR-9C reconciliation statement is also required. We confirm the position for each year, as limits can be revised.
Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?
Yes. We review returns already filed for the year, reconcile them against your books and GSTR-2B, and tell you straight away if anything needs correcting.
